The temperature of the Playground is reduced with the rooftop modular elements, producing a variety of lights and shadows, and the classrooms give shade to this area during the morning until the afternoon. The wind flow in between the classrooms, under the shadowed areas, allows an exchange of temperature and humidity, improving the quality of the air both in interior and exterior spaces.

"[...] pots were brought to the site and cut, so as to be open at both the top and bottom. the pots were then cast into the concrete ceiling to create holes for light and ventilation. [...] a rectangular corrugated iron roof sits above this ceiling and extends out beyond the library [...] as the metal roof heats up it draws the air from inside the library up and out through the holes in the roof, ensuring a comfortable rate of air circulation."

"NLÉ developed a structure that can accomodate up to 100 adults, even in bad weather conditions. It is primarily used as a school, but can also function as an events space, a clinic or a market, depending on the needs of the community. [...] it is an ideal shape for a floating object on water due to its relatively low centre of gravity, which provides stability and balance even in heavy winds."

moving schools - mae sot

Located in a small town in the border between Thailandia and Burma, where many burmese refugees are staying. The architects thought about designing a school that could be someday moved near Burma, to regenerate the small rural areas devastated by the civil war.
